CERB Applications Begin Today (April 6)
According to the Government of Canada website, those that qualify for CERB may begin applying today (April 6). To do so go to CRA My Account or call 1-800-959-2019 or 1-800-959-2041.
CERB supports Canadians by providing $2,000 for a 4-week period (the same as $500 a week) for up to 16 weeks to employed and self-employed Canadians who are directly affected by COVID-19.
After you apply, you should get your payment in 3 business days if you signed up for direct deposit. If you haven’t signed up for direct deposit, you should receive a cheque by mail in about 10 business days.

After you apply
If you are eligible for the CERB, you will receive payment by direct deposit or by cheque (if your direct deposit information is not on file).
|Note: These benefits are taxable and you will need to report any payments received on your 2020 personal income tax return. An information slip will be made available for the 2020 tax year in My Account under Tax Information Slips (T4 and more). Ensure that you set sufficient funds aside (e.g. 25% – 30%) to cover the income tax that will arise from this benefit.|
